At Martech Masterminds 2025, Tryg’s transformation story revealed why integration, timing, and internal alignment matter more than tech trends.
On May 21, 2025, the Brand Leadership Community hosted Martech Masterminds at Saxo Bank in Copenhagen. This spring edition brought together a cross-section of marketing, data, and technology leaders to examine what’s working and what’s not in the modern Martech stack.
Among the day’s most talked-about sessions was a fireside conversation between Martin Vinter, Director of Nordic Martech & Web Analytics at Tryg, and Thomas Lee, Sales Director Nordics at Tealium. Rather than a polished presentation, what unfolded was an honest, strategic, and often technical reflection on how Tryg transformed its Martech stack into a real-time, orchestrated ecosystem.
“I was given a chair, a desk, and a loosely defined vision,” Martin said. “The goal was to collect and connect all customer-related data and make it actionable in real time.”
That journey, eight years and one very patient CFO later, has positioned Tryg at the forefront of Martech implementation in the region.
From Prediction to Precision
From the outset, Thomas Lee set the tone with a simple but weighty question:
“What has actually stayed the same in Martech over the last decade?”
Martin’s answer was immediate: real-time web data. While compliance, cookies, and platforms have shifted around it, the value of knowing what a customer is thinking in the moment has remained constant.
“Online data shows the customer’s state of mind, but only for a short time. Wait too long, and the opportunity disappears.”
As Thomas framed it, the world keeps fragmenting with more tools, more systems, and more silos. So what’s the glue? For Martin, the answer wasn’t more Martech. It was orchestration. Making sure the tools already in place actually work together in real time.
Compliance as Capability
One of the most compelling takeaways from the session was Tryg’s approach to working with legal. When Thomas asked how Martin managed to turn what’s typically a blocker into an enabler, the answer revealed a cultural shift as much as a tactical one.
“At some point, our legal team went from asking ‘How do we avoid this?’ to ‘How do we make this possible?’ That changed everything.”
Martin described how his team began embedding legal into the early design phase of Martech planning. Not just seeking sign-off, but collaborating on viable, privacy-safe paths forward. As Thomas pointed out, in Martech today, legal, tech, and business have to sit at the same table or nothing moves.
This change allowed Tryg to do things competitors wouldn’t attempt. Not because they were non-compliant, but because the path through the complexity wasn’t clear. At Tryg, it was.
GenAI: The Hype and the Hard Truth
When the conversation turned to AI, Thomas challenged Martin with a timely prompt:
“Is GenAI just the latest must-have, or is it something that fundamentally changes your roadmap?”
Martin’s response was both pragmatic and precise. While machine learning is already core to Tryg’s customer and pricing models, Generative AI for customer-facing use is not yet ready for prime time.
“We don’t have enough structured, reliable content to train a GenAI system that can engage customers safely. And in insurance, accuracy matters more than novelty.”
Internally, however, GenAI is already delivering value by powering support tools, content discovery, and faster responses to frontline teams. But externally, the bar remains high, and Tryg isn’t rushing.
What Really Matters in a Martech Vendor
Toward the end of their conversation, Thomas asked one of the most relatable questions in the room:
“With so many tools on the market, how do you actually choose a Martech vendor?”
Martin’s answer cut through the noise:
- Test the support
“If I can’t get a clear, helpful response before we sign a contract, that’s a red flag. I’ll call support just to see what happens.” - Look for plasticity
“Some tools are too locked down. I need flexibility, something that can be adapted when our needs change. Otherwise it won’t last.”
Thomas added a key observation. More vendors are building communities around their tools now. Does that make a difference?
Martin confirmed that for platforms Tryg uses heavily, like Tealium, user communities are essential.
“All you need is one good idea from a peer. That alone can justify the time invested.”
Building for What’s Next
The session wrapped with a forward-looking reflection on AI agents, orchestration, and the future of Martech. Thomas posed the big question:
“What changes do you expect in the next two to five years?”
Martin didn’t speculate about new platforms or trends. Instead, he pointed to operational maturity, a deeper alignment across data, compliance, design, and execution, and a stronger internal culture that enables decisions to move faster.
“If you lose touch with legal, tech, or business, you lose touch with all of them. Orchestration is about making them work together.”
From Fragmentation to Flow
From the outside, Martech often appears to be a question of tooling. But what was shared at Martech Masterminds 2025 made it clear that the future lies not in tools alone, but in how they’re connected and more importantly, how they’re governed, adopted, and acted upon.
“The differentiator today isn’t how many tools you have,” Martin said. “It’s how well they work together in real time toward shared goals.”
In my view, this mindset captures where Martech is truly heading. Not toward more dashboards for their own sake, but toward orchestration that enables decisions, action, and measurable value at the exact moment they matter most.
For those navigating enterprise Martech with real complexity across systems, teams, and legal environments, Tryg’s journey is not just a case study. It is a working model for what good looks like when technology, leadership, and operational strategy align.
